Bats are the discs which attach to the wheelhead of a potter's wheel (pottery wheel). These discs allow ware to be moved from the wheel as soon as it is thrown without damaging or deforming the pot.
Bats are made of plaster, wood products, or plastic. See descriptions below.
Duron, often called "Masonite" is ¼" thick, smooth surface on both sides. These bats should be stored dry and reversed with each use to prevent warping.
Medex is a wood product made without formaldehyde. Medex Bats handles clay like wood or Duron, but are waterproof and do not warp.
HYPE (High-Density Polyethylene) Plastic - 1/4 inch thick, matte finish on both sides to hold and release clay more easily. These are permanent, no-maintenance bats that will not warp.
Plastic - made of injection-molded plastic roughened to prevent clay from sliding during centering.
